Legend has it that after visiting Gosainkunda, a renowned religious site, one must also journey to Parvatikunda in Amachhodingmo Rural Municipality, Ward Number 3.
According to Hindu mythology, during the churning of the ocean, which resulted in the release of poison that threatened to annihilate humanity, Lord Shiva consumed the poison to protect the world. However, the poison began to cause discomfort within him. Seeking relief from the burning sensation, Shiva, accompanied by his divine consort Parvati, ascended the Himalayan region. As Parvati found it challenging to continue the ascent, Shiva left her at the present-day Parvatikunda. When Shiva reached Gosainkunda, he struck the mountain with his trident, causing water to flow, which he drank to alleviate the poison’s effects.
In Buddhism, local Buddhist guru Padmasambhava, also known as Guru Rimporche, is believed to have discovered and used ‘Chodingmo’ (Parvatikunda) for penance and purification rituals before attaining enlightenment.
A grand festival is celebrated annually at Chhodingmo Parvati Kund, a sacred religious site that should be visited at least once in a lifetime. Thousands of Hindus and Buddhists flock here to bathe and seek blessings. People from far and wide gather to participate in the festival. Visitors have the opportunity to catch a glimpse of Mother Parvati, take a dip in the sacred waters, and behold the beautiful natural scenery.
With the assistance the Municipality, efforts have been made to improve the facilities by constructing toilets and managing the site. However, Parvatikunda remains in need of better infrastructure. Located at an altitude of 2,550 meters above sea level, the site hosts a special fair from Ekadashi to Janaipoonirma, attracting devotees and tourists alike.
